Your Questions Answered: The FLEX Range

What is the FLEX Range?

💬 The FLEX Range is Blackcore’s newest range of servers, designed specifically to unlock advanced FPGA capabilities that were previously unattainable with our existing server platforms or traditional systems. Whilst FPGAs are already a significant part of most advanced trading strategies, increased ease of access to FPGA tooling and frameworks, as well as new use cases like inference acceleration has led to increased adoption and as such new challenges or requirements. Therefore, developing a range engineered to tackle these new challenges became a top priority. The FLEX Range demonstrates Blackcore’s commitment to innovation, offering clients cutting-edge technology that meets the evolving demands of this space.

What types of workloads are best suited to the FLEX Range?

💬 Initially, we set out to solve a recurring workload challenge being hit by our clients – four double-width FPGAs in a single box. The FLEX 3100-SX+ supports up to four double-width FPGAs, empowering clients to run multiple trading strategies simultaneously or consolidate a growing number of market data feeds into a single, high-performance server. Whether scaling infrastructure or pushing the limits of trading performance, the FLEX Range delivers the power and flexibility needed to stay ahead. As we expand the range, new workloads will become unlocked.

How is the FLEX Range different from your ICON or ACE servers?

💬 Whilst both the ICON and ACE range support FPGAs, they’re limited by both physical space and available power. This means that typically only one FPGA can be installed in these ranges. FLEX is specifically about breaking these space and power boundaries as well as providing functionality that may not have been previously possible.
