Role Overview
The Procurement Manager is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring components and materials required for the manufacturing of computer systems. This role plays a critical part in ensuring cost efficiency, supply continuity, quality compliance, and on-time production in a fast-paced, technology-driven manufacturing environment.
The ideal candidate has strong supplier negotiation skills, a deep understanding of electronics and computer components, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, production, and logistics teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies for computer components, peripherals, and manufacturing materials (e.g., CPUs, GPUs, memory, storage, PCBs, power supplies, enclosures).
- Source, evaluate, and manage domestic and international suppliers to ensure cost, quality, and delivery targets are met.
- Negotiate pricing, contracts, terms, and long-term agreements with vendors.
- Monitor market trends, component availability, lead times, and pricing fluctuations within the electronics and semiconductor markets.
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams on new product introductions, component selection, and BOM optimization.
- Maintain optimal inventory levels while minimizing excess stock and shortages.
- Ensure suppliers meet quality standards, compliance requirements, and sustainability or ESG expectations where applicable.
- Analyse purchasing data, forecasts, and KPIs to drive continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
- Resolve supply disruptions, shortages, or quality issues with urgency and professionalism.
- Support or lead purchasing process improvements, systems implementation, and documentation.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, or CIPS qualification (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of purchasing or procurement experience in manufacturing; electronics or computer hardware experience strongly preferred.
- Proven experience negotiating with component suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Strong understanding of BOMs, MRP/ERP systems, and supply chain planning.
- Familiarity with global sourcing, import/export regulations, and logistics is a plus.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven manufacturing environment.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in computer, electronics, or high-tech manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of semiconductor supply chains.
- ERP systems experience and computer proficiency.
- Lean, Six Sigma, or cost-reduction initiatives.
